Get to Know Mr. McMillen

By Isabella Cross

Continuing with our introductions to the new teachers at our school, this edition will introduce you to Mr. McMillen. He is an English teacher here at Lloyd for both freshmen and seniors.

This is actually his 14th year teaching. He has taught twelve years at NKU, one year at Dixie, and this is his first year at Lloyd. He loves the environment that Lloyd has. His favorite part about Lloyd is the familiarity he is able to have with his students.

“Since Lloyd is small I am getting to know individual students, not just groups of classes.”

Mr. McMillen grew up in Kentucky, but moved to Plano, Texas in his teenage years. He then came back to Kentucky to obtain his degrees at both EKU and UK.

He is interested in English because of how much people can relate to literature.

“I like literature because we can see a small part of ourselves in the characters of great stories,” he explained.

One of McMillen’s hobbies outside of school includes being there for his two daughters. He coaches his daughters’ sports teams and said, “My girls’ hobbies have become my hobbies.”

We hope that Mr. McMillen has a great first year at Lloyd High School!
